Yaoyorozu Chant of the Dragon God

Inspired by the ancient Japanese concept of Yaoyorozu-the countless divine spirits believed to dwell throughout nature-this piece presents a mystical Japanese world in which the spirits of the mountains, rivers, forests, and sea are united with the presence of the Dragon God, a divine being associated with water and rain. Guided by the prayers of Yaoyorozu, the Dragon God quietly journeys across the heavens. Pure water and gentle light eventually descend upon the earth, washing away impurity and restoring the natural flow of life. Through this story, the music expresses purification, renewal, and the enduring connection between nature and the divine. The arrangement incorporates sounds inspired by traditional Japanese sacred music, including elements reminiscent of kagura and gagaku. The delicate resonance of sho, shakuhachi, bells, and flowing water creates a serene and spiritual atmosphere throughout the piece. The vocal phrases were inspired by the rhythm and atmosphere of ancient Japanese prayer. Original chant-like words were created specifically for this work and are woven throughout the music so that the entire piece feels like one continuous prayer of purification.
